Sandow's End
Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Tucked away in a quiet and picturesque corner of the Adelaide Hills is the Sandow's End vineyard.
The original owners of the property planted 18 acres of Pinot Noir, now; after 25 years, shows a mature and stunning vineyard. These vines produce fruit of exceptional quality that is clearly evident in a glass od Sandow's End Pinot Noir.
The cool climate of the Adelaide Hills ensure a long and gentle ripening period- a must for good Pinot Noir, whilst the northerly aspect of the vineyard captures maximum sunlight through the ripening season. The vineyard is surrounded on all sides by towering eucalypts ensuring protection from severe weather and disease.
The native woodland that surround the vines are home to many small native species, including possums, bats, and many native birds, plus our own resident kangaroos.
Predominantly planted with the D5V12 Pinot Noir clone, the vineyard is lovingly tended by hand. It all begins in June, when canes are carefully selected and hand pruned to ensure ideal low yields. Bunch thinning and leaf plucking are also done by hand to provide the highest possible quality. At vintage the vineyard is carefully monitored and we often taste the fruit daily so that each section of the vineyard is harvested - hand picked - at the optimum time.
The attention to detail continues in the cellar with the fastidious winemaking by Mathew Wenk to gently coax and cajole the delicate flavours of our premium Pinot Noir.
The result is a beautiful expression of our vineyard and the season, as such each vintage is unique and an adventure in it's own right.
In recent years we have enjoyed a cult following from Australia's Pinotphiles... enjoy a glass yourself and discover why.
